Egocentricity By Marc Ellerby 2005
Introduction. This comic was for one of the big last two projects at Uni. I decided to draw a comic that was a month in my life, that documented certain aspects and collect it into a sketchbook. The idea came from James Kolchalka's American Elf and Craig Thompson's Carnet De Voyage. So yeah I started drawing away, but after about a month's worth of stuff, it was apparent that I had enough material to further the project. I then decided to make an artist's book. I redrew some of the daily entries, took and enlarged parts of my sketchbook, fleshed out the whole thing. I was quite lucky in the fact that stuff actually happened. Seriously, if I were to draw it now, It'd be 53 pages of me updating my website and having holes in my socks. The project unearthed a lot for it was my first real experience in creating these types of stories. Based on real fact, presenting myself in this sequential format, it pushed my skills as a storyteller and as an artist by having a strict daily deadline. The name, Egocentricity, comes from a fascination with obscure titles, like with my mini comic series Pandemonium, the fact that I felt that this an almost selfish project and driven by my desire to unearth and create art that's hidden and buried deep down in me, the name sort of just happened. Only one copy of the print version existed in the world and yeah, that's totally mine. Here's some photos. I have no intentions of reproducing it unless a publisher picks it up. Which............ I doubt. --
